Main article: Books (Online) Knahaten Flu Confirmed is a book in The Elder Scrolls Online. Stillrise Village, Shadowfen Related Quest: ? Collection = Diaries and Logs My worst fears are confirmed. Despite our isolation, Stillrise Village experienced its first outbreaks of Knahaten Flu. It began with the traders' twin apprentices, Abaaleb and Sana, a day after their return from Mud Tree. The Elder Scrolls: 10 Races From The Lore We Wish Were Playable. If Bethesda opted to introduce a new playable race to The Elder Scrolls franchise, these picks from the lore would be perfect.

Elder Kings is a fantastic mod that sets the game in the world of the Elder Scrolls series. It's got a lot of really neat features, including magic, vampires and eugenicist elves. My goal with this LP will be to show off the mod while also making an interesting story. She notices there are zombies littering the area. She believes they are victims of the Knahaten Flu, whom her father worked to cure. She was always afraid of the flu victims as a child. Fight through the nightmarish flu victims to get to the next part of the temple. You do not have to kill all of them. The door to the next room is to the south. The Knahaten Flu has wiped out 90% of Tamriel and it won't go away. Is there any way to console/cheat it away beyond moving the trait from everyone. I even started after the flu historically and it still popped up.

I traveled to the city of Rawl'kha, where I'm to help the Lunar Champions begin their spiritual journey.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to Kauzanabi-jo inside Rawl'kha Temple.
  2. Watch the ceremony.
  3. Drink the Moon-Sugar Elixir.
  4. Talk to Shazah, or talk to Khali.
  5. Walk the path with the Lunar Champion.
  6. Walk the path with the next Lunar Champion.
  7. Talk to Kauzanabi-jo.
  8. Observe the ritual.
  9. Talk to Kauzanabi-jo.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Talk to Hadam-do in Rawl'kha. He says that as the Moon-Hallowed, you are expected inside the Rawl'kha Temple. Enter the temple. You have the opportunity to speak with the Dominion elite before proceeding with the ritual. The Green Lady says the Wood Elves are deeply divided, so much so that she believes the Dominion is at its most vulnerable. Queen Ayrenn says the High Elves are cautious, but she says the Summerset Isles will continue to support Elsweyr. Mane Akkhuz-ri says he can never atone for his deeds, and he says he is Mane no longer. Lord Gharesh-ri says the Khajiit are talking about the situation with the Mane and two potential candidates.

When you're ready, speak with Kauzanabi-jo about the ritual. You can ask her questions about it, if you want. You will drink an elixir to make you 'more receptive to the touch of Jone and Jode' and then follow the Lunar Champions. Listen to Kauzanabi-jo as she invites the Lunar Champions to drink the elixir:

'We have gathered here to usher the Champions onto the next path. The trial path. These three cups contain moon-sugar elixir, a sacred potion. They will allow the light of the moons into your souls. Champions, step forth and drink the elixir. The third cup is for the Moon Hallowed, who will walk with the Champions on their path.'
Knahaten

Now it's your turn. Drink the Moon-Sugar Elixir from the center cup on the table. After you drink the elixir, you need to pick the Lunar Champion you wish to observe. You will be walking the path with both of them, this choice is simply who you are going to walk it with first.

Shazah's Path[edit]

Follow Shazah into the temple portal behind her.

In the next room, watch as Shazah greets her father Ubraz. He will be her guide on the path. He tells you to pray at the shrines in the room to learn more of the past. There are three shrines representing different phases of the moon: Full, Waxing and Waning. You have to wait for each vision to end in order to use another shrine.

The three visions show Ubraz, Shazah's father, trying to cure the flu, but eventually failing and succumbing to the plague himself. Ask Shazah if she is ready to continue, then enter the next room.

There are three waves of enemies to defeat in the center of the room. Each wave has more than the previous. Once all of the Flu victims are dead, talk to Shazah in front of the northern door. She knew the people from the visions. They worked with her father, and one was her cook. She realizes that she must be brave like her sister. Enter the portal that appears to completes Shazah's trial.

Khali's Path[edit]

Talk to Khali, then enter the portal behind her. Cut your way through the Colovians that are in your way, then enter the next room through the door to the right.

Khali's mother, Namu appears. She is Khali's guide on the path. Namu tells you to use the three shrines in the room and watch the visions they show you. Use the three Moon Shrines and watch the visions. Each tells the story of Khali's mother and her efforts against the resistance. The final vision shows her death at the hands of Colovian General Quintilius. Talk to Khali after you use all three shrines. You will need to defeat General Quintilius, then speak to Khali again. She realizes that she fights to protect those she cares for. Follow her through the portal into the Temple Sanctuary.

Once you return, speak with to Kauzanabi-jo. There is one more step to the ceremony: the final cleansing. Watch the ritual, then speak to her again for your reward.

Dying victims of the Knahaten Flu

The Knahaten Flu (also known as the Knahaten Plague[1] or the Crimson Plague[UOL 1]) was one of the deadliest diseases to infect the populace of Tamriel, lasting for 43 years, from the year 2E 560[2][3][4] to 2E 603.[5]

History[edit]

Origins[edit]

There are two theories about how the Knahaten Flu was introduced to Tamriel. One account speaks of an Argonian shaman[3] who, in retaliation for the awful treatment of his people by the other races, created the disease 'through a manipulation of their cherished spore-trees'[2] – the Hist. Another account attributes the disease to natural causes.[3] Since Argonians were immune to the Flu,[2][3] the former story was popularly accepted.[6]

The Knahaten Flu began in the city of Stormhold in 2E 560, and quickly spread to every corner of Black Marsh and beyond, killing all infected non-Argonians. It continued to plague Tamriel for over four decades, the last known cases of the Flu being documented in the year 2E 603.[5]

Aftermath[edit]

Elder Kings Knahaten Flu

There is no definitive death toll of the disease. However, the Flu almost completely destroyed the non-Argonian population of Black Marsh, and instilled outsiders with a fear of the province for centuries. Only Dunmer slavers of House Dres, with their entire economy dependent on the slave workforce, remained there. It was said that even Tiber Septim himself thought twice before invading Black Marsh.[3][7] Fear of the disease persisted late into the Third Era, when a mass panic was caused by an alleged relapse of the Flu.[1]

Regardless of the Flu's source, the situation in Black Marsh became increasingly favorable to the Argonians after the disease struck. After the dissolution of the Second Empire, following the assassination of PotentateSavirien-Chorak, Cyrodiil lost its grip over most of the province.[8] Once the Flu struck, the Empire lost any hope of controlling Black Marsh.

The Knahaten Flu was, indirectly, one of the main causes of the Three Banners War. By destroying the royal family of Wayrest, it brought King Emeric to the throne from which he forged the Daggerfall Covenant.[9] It was a crisis in Elsweyr, motivating the Khajiit to join the Aldmeri Dominion out of respect and gratitude for the many elves who had rendered aid during the worst years of the Flu.[10][11] And of course, it provided the Argonians with enough independence to join the Ebonheart Pact as equals to the Dunmer, rather than as slaves.

The Flu also motivated changes to enforce higher standards in food quality and safety; for instance, it made the Summerset Navy rethink their regulations concerning rations.[12]

Symptoms, Treatment and Transmission[edit]

Early symptoms of the Flu include 'general malaise, loss of appetite, and fatigue,' followed shortly by aching muscles, sharp pain in the shoulders, chills, and watering eyes. Late-stage symptoms include wracking cough, high fever, and blood flowing out of the nose, eyes and eventually the mouth. The most prominent sign of the disease was a red, granular rash, which did not itch but spread all over the body.[13] Death usually occurred within three painful days of infection, but some victims were able to survive for up to a week.[14]

While the worst of the symptoms could be alleviated by sorghum-tea[10] and chicken broth,[15] the search for a cure was impeded by many questionable alleged treatments. For instance, a Redguard named Perizada supposedly saved an entire village with a potion made by boiling clannfear claws in salt water, but she later succumbed to the plague herself.[13]

How the disease spread is not definitively known.[13] One source claims it was airborne,[4] while another claims that it was spread through physical contact with the victim's particular rash. The latter theory is supported by reports that infected people who covered their rashes with clothing and bandages were less contagious.[13] Though they were immune to the Knahaten Flu themselves, Argonians were often suspected to be carriers of the disease, perhaps due to the common belief that they had created it.[6]

Victims[edit]

At its height, the Knahaten Flu engulfed most of Tamriel. It spread from Black Marsh, where it started, to southern Morrowind[3] and across the Topal Bay to Elsweyr,[4] and from there to Valenwood[16] and even High Rock.[9]

The Flu managed to destroy cities, religions, and even entire cultures. The high and mighty were not exempt, as it consumed the entire royal family of Wayrest,[9] ending the Gardner Dynasty,[17] as well as the hero Oreyn Bearclaw, who performed many good deeds in Valenwood before succumbing to the disease.[18] Also in Valenwood, the Flu nearly wiped out worshipers of Z'en, leading to the Bosmer abandoning his worship entirely soon afterward.[16]

The entirety of Elsweyr suffered greatly from the Flu, though the city of Senchal suffered the most. A strain of the disease crossed the channel in 2E 560 and infected most of the populace. Soon there was damage to the city itself, as paranoia raged rampant, and entire sections of the city were burned to slow down the Flu, never to be rebuilt again. An account from three hundred years later said that visitors to Senchal could still see the 'charred skylines on the periphery, as black and jagged as the teeth of the nearest sugar junkie, begging for cake.'[4] The disease in Elsweyr was alleviated only with the help of the Altmer, who saved many lives, indebting the Khajiit to them.[11] Despite heavy loss of life, the Mane's Legion managed to reimpose order and implement medical discoveries made by various Clan-Mothers.[10]

The Stricken[edit]

The Stricken were Khajiit whose bodies were ravaged by the Knahaten Flu but ultimately survived their infection with the disease. The Stricken were cast out of Khajiiti society due to rampant fear and hatred of those infected with the Flu. When the outbreak began, Khajiit flocked to S'rendarr's Cradle in small numbers. The adepts tried their best to heal everyone, but many died. Rumors spread that healing could be found within S'rendarr's Cradle, and those afflicted by the Flu came by the dozens. King Hemakar viewed the large numbers of sick people in such close quarters as a breeding ground for the disease. Despite these fears, the adepts of S'rendarr's Cradle tried their best to accommodate everyone and keep the adeptorium sanitary.[19] Many orphaned children were taken in by the adepts during this time.[20]

Elder Kings Mod

All was going as well as it could until Sutabi, vizier to King Hemakar, arrived at S'rendarr's Cradle with a host of war-cats. Sutabi threatened to raze the adeptorium in order to contain the infection. If S'rendarr's Cradle continued to harbor Flu victims, the adeptorium would burn. Thus, the sick were led to nearby Baan Dar's Litter by the adepts and left to die. Those who survived their affliction became known as the Stricken, and they lived in the canyon east of S'rendarr's Cradle for over eighteen years.[19]

The Kothringi and the Crimson Ship[edit]

Those most affected by the Knahaten Flu were the human population of Black Marsh. Most notable among them were the native silver-skinned Kothringi, whose settlements of Stillrise Village and Zuuk were already lifeless by 2E 561.[21][22] The Kothringi are thought to have been completely exterminated by it.[2][3][nb 1]

One of the most famous stories from those troubled times is that of the Crimson Ship. Filled with Kothringi refugees, it left the shores of Black Marsh on the 9th of First Seed, 2E 563, only to be turned back at every port. After a year on the sea, they reached Hammerfell, and with no one to shelter them, they sailed west[5] to the Abecean Sea. The book, Pirates of the Abecean tells a tale of the discovery of the ship, found adrift by a group of pirates, its entire crew dead.[23] The tale appears to be fictional, as no official records exist that confirm the discovery of the ship. In 2E 582, a Khajiit beggar claimed to have been on a ship that encountered the vessel during his service in the Imperial army, blaming the event for his misfortunes. However, the reliability of his testimony is questionable.[24]

To memorialize this event, the people of Hammerfell honor the 20th of Rain's Hand as the Day of Shame. Nobody leaves their house, for it is told that the Crimson Ship will return on this day.[25]

Notes[edit]

  • ^Some Kothringi did manage to survive the Flu through unnatural means, and were known to live in Black Marsh up to 2E 582. However, there is no record of these settlements afterward, and sources after that time continued to state that the Kothringi had been completely exterminated.
